May 2018 Newsletter - "Zoar The City of Destruction" by David Hill

It is such an honor for me to offer to the Forerunner family inspiration that can encourage and strengthen our walk in the “WAY.” Yeshua is the WAY, the Truth, and the Life, and to discover another hidden gem of revelation from scripture that speaks directly to our time in practical terms is, to me, both exciting and sobering. Exciting, because Yeshua is appearing and revealing truths that can transform us, and sobering because it requires a response, a change to conform to his perfection.

The same declaration which Abram heard from the LORD in Genesis 17:1, “I am the LORD thy God, walk before me (face to face) and be thou PERFECT and I will MAKE my covenant (the divine Torah) BETWEEN me and thee,” is being repeated to us at each appearing. Our souls must choose either spirit or flesh, and according to our choice, life or death. Each appearing of His face to us through the scriptures reveals who we are, and choosing connection to him by obedience will make us complete. Seeing or walking before the Lord is the key. The word “before” is the word pawneem (H6440), which means face to face. Clearly, to be face to face is intimacy and the realm of beholding, or spiritual sight. To have an encounter with the Lord, to see and hear and get the divine Torah, and to just hold onto this revelation without responding is the same as veiling Yeshua in us or making this revelation insignificant. This reveals unbelief and a choice to be against or to oppose the Lord’s way, and it is ascension up the mountain or mindset of pride. Matt. 12:30 says, “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” There is a powerful story from Genesis 19 that reveals this type of veiling I’m speaking about and its consequences.

Genesis 19 describes the intended destruction of five specific cities, two of which we are all very familiar with - Sodom and Gomorrah, and the Lord’s interaction with Lot and his family. This entire story is an end of the age parable, complete with the divine seed (Abraham) watching the destruction from “before the Lord” on mount Horeb the mountain of the Lord, safe and in awe. Lot is the main character we see in this chapter, and the meaning of his name or his character and function means covering or VEIL. His name is spelt Lamed, Vav, Tet. Lamed is the yoke or teaching, the Vav is a spike or a connector (Yeshua is the connection between earth and heaven), and the Tet is a basket. So, Lot was taught and encountered the heavenly connection yet only held it inside him, and he hid this revelation in his basket of his flesh. He made the revelation insignificant to his life. He chooses to live for the flesh or natural ways of man.

Deuteronomy 29:23 lists the 4 cities which were destroyed by the Lord in judgment, but one more was intended for destruction as well but was spared due to the request of Lot. The name of that city was Zoar/Bela (see Gen 14:2). The name Zoar means insignificance, and Bela means destruction. How very interesting! Let’s continue the story from Genesis 19:17-23.

“So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, ‘Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.’ Then Lot said to them, ‘Please, no, my lords! Indeed now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die. See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.’ And he said to him, ‘See, I have favored you concerning this thing also, in that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken. Hurry, escape there. For I cannot do anything until you arrive there.’ Therefore, the name of the city was called Zoar. The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar.”

Here, Lot has had an encounter with Yeshua (called a theophany), which is an appearing of Christ or Messiah. He has a divine revelation that comes to save him from looming judgment. However, he argues with the Lord and due to unbelief, he still thinks that if he obeys the command of the Lord, he will die. Our salvation in the days ahead is in our ascending the mountain of the Lord, in revelation and obedience. Lot in his veiled state was more concerned with his soul’s connection to this natural, fleshly life. He only desired to save his natural life but lost the offer to save his connection to eternity. He was destroyed spiritually because he made the revelation insignificant. The evil he feared that would overtake him if he obeyed already was in him, and we will see that his choices birthed a cursed prodigy that the Torah commands we must war with and refuse to make peace with or to allow to prosper (Deuteronomy 23:6).

Zoar now became Lot’s home, insignificance and destruction were his new bed fellows. The sun rose upon the earth as Lot entered Zoar; a new day for Lot was dawning, but it was a new day for his earth and his destiny was eternally changed. He was now sealed on a carnal path of fear, and in realization of his mistake, he strived to get out of the situation by ascending a mountain but not the mountain of the Lord. I believe Lot is a type or foreshadowing of the current end time church, which has had some revelation but refused to fully obey and to believe the message to get out of the false religious system. These people have placed an insignificant value on the secrets and mysteries of the Lord, which is the invaluable price for our salvation. Let’s continue reading.

Gen. 19:30-38 says, Then Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. And he and his two daughters dwelt in a cave. Now the firstborn said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth. Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father." So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. It happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, "Indeed I lay with my father last night; let us make him drink wine tonight also, and you go in and lie with him, that we may preserve the lineage of our father." Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose. Thus, both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day. And the younger, she also bore a son and called his name Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the people of Ammon to this day.

Lot led the rest of his family up out of Zoar, but because it was too late, he was now ascending the mountain of pride. Pride is doing your own will and saving the fleshly nature, the custom of the earth. His seed and legacy is two nations, two opposing mindsets that war against the spirit. These grow up to oppose the very true seed of the Lord.

There is much more revelation which can be seen as you look deeper into what these passages hold. Listen to the message of warning for our time and run far away from being just a hearer of the Word and not a doer also. Do not think that just because you have revelation that it’s the end. The Father gives us truth for our perfection. No false image will be before our Father. We must become what we behold. It is his promise to make his covenant between you and him. He wants to build this bridge, so facilitate his offer by unwavering intimacy and obedience to him. Do not choose the offer of the enemy of insignificance and destruction. Flee from Zoar as fast as you can, and ascend the mountain of the Lord.

Commit to stand in the mountain of the Lord with the prophetic picture of Genesis 19:27-28, “And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the LORD. Then he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain; and he saw, and behold, the smoke of the land which went up like the smoke of a furnace.”

Blessings dear Forerunner family. Love and live on fire. The word joined (H3867) is spelled Lamed, Vav, Hey. If you turn the spelling of Lot’s name, from VEIL by changing the Tet into a Hey, you get joined into the true Echad of divine life.
